Accident Alert

During severe weather conditions or other large incidents, the Parker Police Department may initiate an Accident Alert. When this happens, it may not be possible to respond to all minor traffic occurrences. When on Accident Alert status, the Parker Police Department requests you file a counter report if your traffic accident fits the following criteria:

  • The Parker Police Department is on accident alert and:
    • No fatality or injury requiring medical attention was sustained by any person(s) involved in the accident
    • No driver involved in the accident is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • The accident does not involve damage to any public property (a road sign, utility pole, etc.) other than wildlife
    • All vehicles and drivers involved are present at the scene, and the driver, vehicle, and insurance information is available to be exchanged
    • No tow truck is required (except to get a vehicle unstuck or change a tire)
  • The accident occurs on private property and:
    • No fatality or injury requiring medical attention was sustained by any person(s) involved in the accident
    • No driver involved in the accident is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • All vehicles and drivers involved are present at the scene, and the driver, vehicle, and insurance information is available to be exchanged
  • The accident occurs on a city street and involves minor damage with the apparent amount of damage to any one vehicle or other property being less than $1,000, and:
    • No fatality or injury requiring medical attention was sustained by any person(s) involved in the accident
    • No driver involved in the accident is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • All vehicles and drivers involved are present at the scene, and the driver, vehicle, and insurance information is available to be exchanged
    • No one insists that the police respond
  • The accident is a hit and run involving an unoccupied vehicle on a city street or on private property and:
    • The suspect driver is not known by name
    • The suspect vehicle cannot be described to include the license plate number

What Information You Should Obtain From the Other Driver

If you are able to complete a counter report for your accident, please obtain the following information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number and state
  • Name, address, and phone number of vehicle owner (if different from driver)
  • Vehicle year, make, model, color, license plate number and state, and vehicle identification number
  • Insurance company, policy number, expiration date, and agent’s name and phone number
