About the Event
Throughout the year, the Parker Police Department hosts merit badge training for Boy and Girl Scout troops in the area. The training can include scout requirements for various areas.
Each section of the training will take approximately 25 minutes with the scout pack/dens rotating through the four sections.
Due to the large number of scouts expected to attend we ask that only scouts and leaders register for the event.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted. Scout leaders and groups must check-in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the program.
Scouts will learn various aspects of crime prevention and how to handle emergencies. Other topics will include how to keep yourself and your family safe, how to report a crime and how to help the Police Department.
Fingerprinting & Evidence
Sheets will be handed out so that each scout can do their own fingerprints and see how fingerprints are taken. A brief history of fingerprinting will be given, as well as information on the types of fingerprints, how they are classified and how fingerprints are used. Officers will demonstrate how evidence is gathered, show how to do a casting of a footprint or tire track and how to lift fingerprints off various items.
Scouts will also learn what evidence is, where evidence can be found and what items can be considered as evidence.
In this section, scouts will learn how to prepare themselves and their families for emergency situations. They will learn how to make a 72-hour preparedness kit for their family and pets and how to create a communication plan for their family.
Scouts will work on basic first aid and practice hands on training.
